Colorado State University: A Campus of Character

“I am what I am today because of choices I made yesterday” -Anonymous

Colorado State University has twice been ranked among the nation's Top Character Building Institutions by the Templeton Foundation.

The mission of CSU's Character Task Force is to work collaboratively with the City of Fort Collins to develop and support initiatives and programs that foster character development, encourage student civic engagement and build community. We will strive to establish a community culture that encourages, recognizes, and rewards good character. We will emphasize character rather than achievement, since achievement with excellence, by its very nature, requires good character.

What is Character?

Character is the inward motivation to do what is right, whatever the cost. It enables one to see the wise decision in every situation and provides the courage to choose that route.

What is a Campus of Character?

A Campus of Character is a community of individuals committed to a life long journey of demonstrating high standards in their actions.

"If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in character, if there is beauty in character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation; if there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world." Chinese proverb

"Failures of leadership are caused not by a lack of competence, but by a lack of character. Good leaders must have strong character." Quote from Norman Schwarzkopf, Coloradoan 11/7/02.
